JPEG is the most common and popular bitmap format. The form got its name from the name of the organization-developer Joint Photographic Experts Group. Files of this format are used today in all digital cameras and cameras. They have a good compression ratio and support 24-bit color depth. Since such compression significantly reduces image size with virtually no loss of quality, JPEG format is widespread on the Internet. However, the stronger the compression, the worse the quality. In addition, the JPEG format does not support the transparency option.

DCM is a special format for bitmap graphics that are used in medical equipment. This is also the format of communication lines. The development of this format was carried out by NEMA - the National Association of Electrical Equipment Manufacturers. This data reporting standard is owned by the International Electrical Manufacturers Association. The purpose of the DCM format, that is, DICOM Image File, is to receive and store in graphical form the results of the patient’s diagnostics - ultrasound studies, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging. The DICOM Image File file contains not only raster objects and expressions proper, but also information about a particular patient. This means that the DCM file is capable of containing personal information. Due to it, you can identify the patient and compare the image with a specific subject. Now the format is used as a standard for medical images. In order to open, that is, edit a file of this format, such programs are usually used: DicomWorks, ACD Systems Canvas, Adobe Photoshop, ezDICOM, IrfanView, XnView.
